Introducing our new signing… dAMON fROST! We whole heartedly welcome Damon to the Accidental family for 2014 and he graces us with his first release on 30th March - ‘tHE eXPLAIN mY dRIVE eP’. The opening track ‘sTEP uP’ is available for streaming right now here!
Merz teams up with Swiss super drummer Julian Sartorius to create an otherworldly version of the album ‘No Compass Will Find Home’. Dont be fooled into thinking this is any kind of re release, No Compass Renditions takes the melodic and lyrical imagery from the original record and wraps it around minimalist acoustic rhythm tracks and organic percussive outbursts.
The debut album from London four piece Hejira is out now and available on CD, double 12” vinyl and digital formats. The Matthew Herbert produced album ‘Prayer Before Birth’ plays out like an ensemble-piece, a debut of rare composure that possesses a questing musical sensibility. There is a delicate orchestration to their playing and arrangements that has more in common with symphonic classical music than rock. Full of gentle surprises, the whole project feels unhindered by compromise or a desire to please, making for a magnetic and engaging listen.
Accidental’s new signings Hejira release their debut single for the label in the form of ‘Litmus Test’. Available on 12” vinyl and digital formats, the single comes with remixes from wonder drummer Seb Rochford featuring UK rapping royalty Jehst as well as sought after producer Floating Points, who offers up something beyond what could merely be called a remix.
Following on from Matthew Herbert’s ‘One’ trilogy - One One, One Club and One Pig - ‘The End Of Silence’ takes the idea of a single sound source to its logical conclusion by utilizing only one five second audio recording as the sole source for the whole album.
Matthew was emailed a recording made by photographer Sebastian Meyer during the battle of Ras Lanuf in Libya on 11th March 2011. In the brief recording, a pro-Gadaffi plane can be heard approaching, a whistled warning, a shout and then, as if from nowhere, a bomb. It is this recording that makes up the entirety of this record.
The End Of Silence was released 24th June, 2013

The long awaited album from Merz ‘No Compass Will Find Home’ is now out and already raking in the plaudits including being The Sunday Times Album Of The Week…
Produced in partnership with Matthew Herbert, in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, Merz’s new album No Compass Will Find Home is released on Accidental Records on January 7th 2013.
Eagerly anticipated album amongst Merz’s international fan base, the album track TOY has already attracted media attention, the song receiving heavy rotation from US station KCRW and listed by The Guardian as one of the Best Tracks of 2011. Described by Merz as “A big bowl of Romanticism and a rush of Rousseau-esque rhythms”, the album features notable musicians Gyda Valtysdóttir (founding member of Icelandic band Múm), London guitarist & composer Leo Abrahams and Swiss drummer Julian Sartorius
Musically the album appears to hark back to the adventurism of Merz’s eponymous debut in 1999, and while his last album Moi et Mon Camion (2008) was an homage to his English roots, this latest long player is harder to pin-down. Recorded in Switzerland, No Compass Will Find Home is a progressive, wild and ragged record with a unique kind of psychedelia.
Available now in CD and Digital formats from iTunes - Boomkat - Amazon - or directly from Accidental. There is also a limited edition double 12” clear vinyl featuring remixes hoping to be made available soon through Beat Delete…

Accidental Records are excited to facilitate your listening pleasure of never before released musical nuggets from the Herbert treasure trove on “Early Herbert”. It’s a collection of tracks that were released on small independent 90’s dance labels that have mostly long since folded and cease to exist. A lot of these tracks are very rarehave been completely unavailable for over a decade. The iTunes box set format will include photos, credits, video links and visuals alongside the full audio. A feast for ears, eyes, feet and head. And everywhere between, naturally. Accidental Records will release “Herbert Complete” on Monday 4th March.
For starters, eleven years after it’s original release, Accidental Records are proudly reissuing label boss Matthew Herbert's celebrated classic album”Bodily Functions”. Widely considered to be a house music classic having featured in various Album of the Decade lists (including Pitchfork and Resident Adviser), for many it was the first Herbert album they fell in love with.
“Bodily Functions so effectively destroys every house music cliché, from which ever school, that my Romantic self wishes just to call this album “high art.”… I don’t think what Herbert and his collaborators have achieved can soon be bested.”
Paul Cooper; June 5, 2001, Pitchfork
There have of course been many brilliant house albums since Bodily Functions, many of them influenced by it, but there is a distinctive, timeless quality in the sounds and words these songs were made from. Those sounds include the distinctive voice of Matthew’s former wife Dani Siciliano, human blood flow, bones, teeth and laser eye surgery. Indeed, Matthew’s now legendary Personal Contract for the Composition of Music (PCCOM) for which is he now famed, was considered radical at the time.
Featuring the seminal singles ‘The Audience’ (featuring Shingai Shoniwa, now of the Noisettes), ‘Foreign Bodies’, ‘Suddenly’ and ‘Leave Me Now’, the reissued double CD will also include remixes by Matmos, Plaid, Mr.Oizo, Jamie Lidell, DJ Koze, Perry Farrel, Dave Aju, Richard Devine, Recloose and more. The vinyl 12” will feature brand new remixes by DJ Koze and Dave Aju.
The wonderful new video for “Goodbye My Chimera” by Accidental’s latest collaborator Merz (prod. by Matthew Herbert) just premiered on The Guardian. It is taken from the Xynthia EP, which will be available on 10 December via Accidental Records. The new album is out on 7 January.

Described as “An outrageous slice of pop music with its intelligence left intact” (Clash Music), on first listen “Battery” might sound like a glossy yet quirky leftfield pop album destined for dancefloors and iPod party playlists. On closer inspection the underlying message is of hope and perseverance in the face of judgement and doubt, in a similar vein to writers such as Santigold, Outkast and Prince.
